A few years ago, my husband and I embarked on a thrilling journey—we became the proud owners of a charming lake house. The allure of lakeside living, with its promise of tranquility and adventure, captured our hearts from the start. However, as we settled into our new retreat, we quickly realized that the process of equipping our lake house was filled with unexpected challenges and discoveries.

Discovering the Essentials

As we began the process of setting up our lake house, we soon realized that there were a multitude of items we needed to ensure our comfort and convenience. There’s a whole lot more to furnishing a lake house besides just buying new furniture!

From basic kitchenware like dishes, utensils, and cookware to linens, towels, and toiletries, the list seemed endless. We spent countless hours scouring stores and online shops, carefully selecting each and every item to create a welcoming and functional space.

While decorating a lake house can be a whole lot of fun, it’s important to consider the practical side, too. Despite our best efforts, we soon discovered that there were many items we hadn't even considered. 

Easily overlooked lake house accessories like bug spray, sunscreen, and first aid kits became essential additions to our inventory as we spent more time outdoors. Extra surge protectors, a tool kit, and spare flashlights may not be the most glamorous items on your shopping list, but once you need them, you’re glad to have them on hand.

Choosing Furniture

Few would argue that furniture is the most important part of decorating a lake house. We quickly learned the importance of investing in high-quality contemporary outdoor furniture (and protective covers) that are durable and able to withstand the elements.

Choosing lake house furniture for the interior space is even more challenging! Your furniture sets the mood visually, but style isn’t the only consideration. When buying new furniture, you need to think about your own needs, as well as the needs of guests, like convertible sofa beds for extra guests who may stay over and shoe storage benches for all that muddy footwear! You have to track down furniture that’s comfortable, functional, and made to last.
